IDC just released figures that the PC market in Middle East and Africa suffered an almost 29% drop on a one-year sales based on figures from the final quarter of 2015. Shipments dropped for the third consecutive quarter but that does not mean all sales in every part of Middle East and Africa was and is struggling.
Main reason for bad sales figures within the MEA market is the development in the Middle East including Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey and Yemen. We still see good growth in UAE, Qatar and in West and East Africa. The American computer manufacturer HP experiencing a fall of around 27% on year but are still No 1 in the MEA market, while Chinese Lenovo suffered a drop of 30% in shipments still keeping its second place. America Dell is still on 3rd place and now Taiwanese ASUS is on 4th and the other Taiwanese Acer is on 5th place in the sales list. We don’t see an explosion in notebook or desktop sales as we see in tablets and smartphones in the MEA market, especially in West and East Africa. We do see a lot of cheaper smart phones but that also create an interesting market in Middle East and Africa.
The access to mobile broadband and smart phones create many interesting opportunities. For example increased connectivity and the lack of financial services before creates opportunities for mobile banking. We see opportunities for digital healthcare, e-Commerce, e-Education and e-Governance.
